Manchester United ace Ashley Young is eager to get on the scoresheet again after having established himself as a key player under Jose Mourinho this season.

The England international started his professional career as a winger, but he has developed his defensive game over the years, and he is now regarded as a versatile full-back in the United ranks.

Young was a surprise starter in the 3-0 Champions League win over Basel earlier this month after Mourinho surprisingly picked him ahead of Antonio Valencia at right-back. The former Aston Villa man went on to provide a delightful assist for Marouane Fellaini’s opener, and he has since featured as a left-back in the Premier League games against Everton and Southampton.

Speaking on MUTV, Young admits that he has to read more from the game, given his vast experience playing for the Red Devils. He added that he is happy to play wherever the manager wants him as he will always give his 100 percent on the pitch, he said: “At my age, you have to read the game more, and at full-back you have to read the game more, I think I’ve got a good footballing brain to be able to do that. I’m just happy to be out there playing and whenever I’m called upon I’ll give 100 per cent.”Continue reading

Arsenal legend-turned-pundit Paul Merson has questioned Manchester United’s decision to sign the likes of Victor Lindelof and Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer.

The Red Devils spent over £140m on the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic, Lindelof this summer, whilst Ibrahimovic re-joined the club on a one-year contract.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, the former Gunners star was unconvinced by Jose Mourinho’s decision to sign Lindelof, who has yet to make his Premier League for the Red Devils, he said: “I’m not convinced by Victor Lindelof at all, but Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic are very, very good signings and that’s why I’m giving them such a high grade. They are two players that they needed and they will make a massive difference to that team. They look like a completely different team with those two players in it and they could be the players to win the Premier League for them.”Continue reading

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has no intention of selling Ashley Young despite the Englishman entering the final year of his contract.

The 32-year-old has been largely a bit-part player at Old Trafford, but Mourinho still seeks to utilise his versatility with the club competing on all four fronts next season. Young is currently recovering from a hamstring problem which he suffered during the first leg of United’s Europe League semi-final tie against Celta Vigo in May.

The Red Devils eventually beat the Spanish outfit across two legs by a 2-1 scoreline after which they clinched their title with a 2-0 victory over Ajax in the final in Stockholm. According to The Sun, Young remains a key part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for next season, although he will not be available for the first few months due to injury. The Englishman travelled alongside his teammates on their pre-season tour of the United States, and Mourinho has insisted that there should be a close bond between his players regardless of their fitness ahead of the new season.

Young has another 12 months left on his existing deal with the option of a year’s extension, and Mourinho is prepared to utilise his services for the upcoming campaign rather than discuss offers with his suitors. Continue reading

Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan in the next few days, reports in England say. The transfer price for the player has been the main reason delaying the deal – Inter want £48 million for the player but United want to offer significantly less for the 28-year old winger.

Inter also reportedly asked Manchester United about its forward Anthony Martial. The Serie A side are looking at the possibility that the struggling Red Devils France international would move to Italy.Continue reading

Manchester United could reportedly end their association with Ashley Young this summer amid interest from Super Lig side Istanbul Basaksehir.

The 31-year-old was used sparingly by Jose Mourinho last term, making just 12 appearances in the top flight. Back in January, Young had been approached by Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng but the Englishman turned down their advances in order to stay put with the Mancunian giants.

According to The Sun, the England international could end his six-year stay at Old Trafford this summer with Istanbul Basaksehir weighing up a move for his signature. The Turkish club ended behind Besiktas in the Super Lig standings last season, but they managed to nevertheless attract quality players with Emmanuel Adebayor having impressed in the second half of the season.Continue reading

In a culture that rarely throws fanfare light on other players in a football pitch except the once occupying offensive positions, Michael Carrick’s latest ‘quiet’ extension of his stay at Man United is no surprise.

This is in pure contrast to how many drums would have been rolled had it been that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was in place of Carrick. The retired England midfielder belongs to a class of extremely important squad members who hardly get on the right fans’ prejudice.

The 35-year old joined United and help shaped the core of a team that would go on to lift 5EPL titles cups and a UEFA Champions League trophy. He is known for his cool headed personality and his efficient use and distribution of the round leather.

He is also one of the very few alongside David de Gea, to have kept putting in best displays carried on from the Sir Alex Ferguson era. It is with little surprise that the English man featured as a cornerstone for all managers that have taken the seat left behind by Ferguson. To put it mildly, United’s midfield hardly had control of any match in his absence.Continue reading

Manchester United have suffered a major blow with the news that midfielder Ashley Young will be missing the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

Even though the former Aston Villa star has been a bit part player this season, his presence would have been crucial in the final few matches of the season. United have purely focused on the Europa League in the last few weeks, but manager Jose Mourinho is not without his problems even when it comes to winning this competition. United take on Ajax in the final of the competition on May 24. Success in this competition will give United access to the Champions League group stages next season.

Young came extremely close to leaving the club during the January transfer window, but mounting injuries meant that Jose Mourinho kept him out of the club. This decision proved valuable, as Young player in several key games in the months of March and April – including the 2-0 win over Chelsea. Continue reading

Ashley Young says that he is not concentrating on his future plans right now.

The winger was heavily linked with an exit from Manchester United during the January transfer window. It is believed that he received several offers from Chinese football in order to make the switch. He would have been able to get a three-year contract from the Chinese clubs and it was reportedly worth around £ 15 million. Even though he is similar wage per season at United, the Red Devils may not keep him around for long. José Mourinho has used the former Aston Villa midfielder sparingly, as the club are extremely strong in the midfield positions.

Yet, the decision to stay at United may be rewarded quite handsomely since the club have been able to make their presence in three major competitions. After having already won the League Cup, United have been able to reach the semifinals of the Europa League. Continue reading

Ashley Young has not been factored as much as he might have liked at Manchester United this season. The 31-year-old has been reduced to a limited role at the club due to the presence of Anthony Martial, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard in the wing options.

Young has been with United for six seasons after moving to the club in 2011 and maintained the impressive form he had displayed at Aston Villa for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men. He battled injury problems in the Red Devils’ title winning season in the 2012-13 campaign, but still played a significant role in their success.

However, since the departure of Ferguson he has found his role reduced in the side under the three managers that have taken to the dugout – David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.Continue reading
