England international Ashley Young is reportedly said to want a two-year contract with Manchester United which would keep him at the club until the age of 35. The attacker has transformed himself into a quality full-back over the past 18 months but his future with the club has been called into question with his current contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

According to The Sun, the 33-year-old is awaiting discussion over a new contract with United after proving a quality player under the guidance of Jose Mourinho. United have generally offered only one-year deals to players above the age of 30 but Young is hoping that the club buck the trend and issue him a two-year contract just like Marouane Fellaini during the summer.

Manchester United defender Ashley Young has expressed a sense of disappointment after the Red Devils suffered an abysmal 3-1 Premier League defeat at the hands of West Ham United on Saturday. The Red Devils had come into the game on the back of two winless matches across all competitions and they were pegged back within the opening five minutes with Felipe Anderson finding the scoresheet.

Thereafter, a deflected Andriy Yarmolenko shot doubled the scores for the Hammers but there appeared a comeback on the cards after Marcus Rashford found the net for United following the break. However, their optimism was shortlived with Marko Arnautovic bagging the third goal for the Hammers just minutes after Rashford’s strike.

England international Ashley Young has stressed that the team are not getting carried away from their 2-0 win over Sweden in the World Cup quarter-final. The victory has witnessed the Three Lions reach the last four of the global tournament for the first time in 28 years but Young has indicated that the celebrations remain muted.

He said: “We haven’t won anything yet so there’s no point in celebrating. It was nice to get the victory but I think the celebrations were muted because there’s still big games to come up. There’s still a lot to play for. I’ve said all along that the team spirit we have got here has been fantastic and I think you see that in the way we celebrate after a game. We get ourselves back to the hotel, recover, prepare the right way and go for the next game.”

England international Ashley Young has been left unimpressed by Manchester United’s season and believes there is plenty of room for improvement prior to the 2018/19 campaign. The Red Devils are currently in need of another four points to assure themselves of the runner-spot and they can then switch their focus to the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Despite this, they have been far off from competing with Manchester City for the Premier League crown and Young believes the club were made to pay for their mistakes during the festive period, in particular, he told ESPN: “It has been one of those seasons when around Christmas we were drawing games, late goals against us, and when you look back at those kind of games then you think the season could have been different. It wasn’t meant to be but we have put down a marker against the top-four, top-six clubs, but it is more than that. We have to win at other clubs as well. Manchester United ace Ashley Young has said that he remains a winger by trade despite featuring regularly for the Red Devils in the left-back spot this term. Under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, the 32-year-old has managed to own the makeshift position, and his performances have also been noticed by England manager Gareth Southgate.

Speaking to ESPN FC, Young admitted that he sees himself as a winger, but he is pleased to contribute from any position for the club, he said: “I don’t know [my best position]. I’m not sure anymore. I still see myself as a winger because I’ve played there for so long. I’ve played as a No. 10 as well. There are so many positions and I think it’s only goalkeeper and centre-half that I haven’t played so far [for United]. But wherever the manager calls upon me, I will go out there and give 100 percent and look to play well, which I think I’ve done this season.”

England international Ashley Young believes Manchester United are well equipped to win the Champions League after making the knockout stage of the elite competition for the first time since the 2013/14 season. The Red Devils face-off against Sevilla in a two-legged round of 16 tie between February and March.


In an interview covered by Sky Sports, Young remains optimistic about the club’s chances of repeating their Champions League feat from 1999 and 2008, he said: “Of course (we can win the Champions League). You don’t enter a competition not to win it. That’s what we will be looking to do and take each game as it comes. The next one is against Sevilla. That’s a tough away game like Huddersfield, like Newcastle away. That’s what the stadium is like. We just have to concentrate on ourselves.”

Manchester United ace Ashley Young is not pleased with his three-match retrospective ban for his elbow on Southampton’s Dusan Tadic. The England international was awarded the suspension following the goalless draw last weekend where he was spotted elbowing Tadic in the stomach.

Initially, referee Craig Dawson could not spot the incident but it still came under review following repeated slow motion replays from BT Sport, which has not gone well with the veteran. The 32-year-old has since missed United’s 2-0 league win over Everton, and he is set to do the same for the games versus Derby County and Stoke City in the FA Cup and Premier League respectively.

The last time Ashley Young pulled on an England shirt was in 2013, four years ago. He came on as a substitute for Jack Wilshere in 0-0 draw against Ukraine in September, 2013. He had suffered the disappointment of being left out of Fabio Capello’s squad for 2010 World Cup. He wasn’t even in contention for the 2014 world cup squad. Now, he has a big chance to make to Russia next summer, if he continues with his strong performances for Manchester united.

The Manchester United man said, “I never once shut the door on England or thought that the door was shut. I’ve shown I am ¬deserving of a place in the ¬England squad but I don’t just want a place in the squad, I want to be in the team.”

England manager Gareth Southgate revealed that Ashley Young gained his trust after having been picked regularly for the national side by his predecessors. The 32-year-old had not featured for the Three Lions since 2013, but his form for United at left-back/left wing-back this season convinced Southgate into a recall.

In a report covered by The Mirror, Southgate insisted that he is open to offering opportunities to senior players despite playing emphasis on grooming young talent prior to next year’s World Cup, he said, “Generally speaking we want to look at younger players, and develop the team, but I’ve always said if a more senior player is playing well and warrants the call-up, we should include them. He’s a player every Manchester United manager has picked, and that tells me something about his mentality and the trust they have in him.”
