Manchester United had too much quality for Aston Villa in the first half of their pre-season clash and they had two goals to show for their superiority. England international Jadon Sancho scored the first United goal on 25 minutes before the own goal from Polish international Matty Cash doubled the advantage three minutes from the half-time interval. Aston Villa pulled a goal back four minutes after restart through Leon Bailey. Bailey was able to make it two goals in four pre-season games with the first Villa goal against the Red Devils.

Ashley Young entered into the game with Aston Villa trailing 2-1 to Manchester United. While Young was on the pitch, Villa were able to score a late equaliser.
