YOUNG STUNS VILLA WITH FITNESS LEVELS

Veteran England player Ashley Young has stunned his new Aston Villa teammates with his fitness levels since returning to the club this summer.

36-year-old Ashley Young re-signed for Villa this summer. He opted to return to Aston Villa ahead of another former club Watford. Burnley were also keen on signing him. Ashley Young became a free agent this summer after the expiration of his contract at Inter Milan whom the Englishman helped to win the Italian Serie A title for the first time since 2010.

Young has shown his new Villa teammates that he’s not returning to the club to makeup the numbers with his impeccable fitness levels. He started the friendly win over Walsall on Wednesday.  The ex-England national team player made his second debut for Villa as a left-back in the 4-0 win over Walsall. He played the first 45 minutes of the game.

Matt Targett was the first choice left-back at Aston Villa last season and his place is under threat from Ashley Young who can also play at right-back. Targett featured in all the 38 Premier League games for Villa last season and was even considered by England manager Gareth Southgate ahead of Euro 2020.Targett missed the friendly with Walsall due to a knock. Matty Cash is the first choice right-back at Aston Villa.

Apart from Ashley Young, 20-year-old Jacob Ramsey has been impressive during preseason with manager Dean Smith considering the idea of giving him a role in the team as the box-to-box midfielder. The young player was mainly used as substitute out wide whenever he played last season. The homegrown Aston Villa academy graduate made 22 appearances for the club last season. His long-term future lies at Aston Villa having penned a new deal in February and he would be looking to make more progress in the first team this season.
