Veteran English player Ashley Young is eyeing a second league appearance of the season as his team do battle with hosts Arsenal on Wednesday night. The former Inter Milan and Watford star has played just once in the Premier League this season as Aston Villa continue to struggle under the managerial guidance of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Young and Villa have made a disappointing start to the current Premier League campaign after one win in four games. They have a record of one win and three defeats from four games. To this effect, they are in the bottom five on the Premier League standings.
Aston Villa began the latest Premier League campaign with the shocking 2-0 at the hands of Bournemouth, one of the three newly promoted teams. Ecuadorian midfielder Jefferson Lerma and Welsh international striker Kiefer Moore scored the goals for the Cherries. Villa recorded their first league win of the new season with the 2-1 win at home to Everton. Danny Ings and Emiliano Buendia were on target for Villa against Everton, while the Merseyside outfit scored their goal through Lucas Digne (own goal).
Villa are presently on a two-match losing run in the league on the back of the home win over the Toffees. They were beaten at Crystal Palace despite taking the lead with the game ending 3-1. The loss against the Eagles was followed by the 1-0 defeat at home to West Ham United. Spanish playmaker Pablo Formals scored the only goal of the game for the Hammers who secured their first league win of the season.
